HYDERABAD: Running short of political options to achieve its goal of statehood to Telangana, the TRS has taken the battle straight into the Congress and TDP camps by trying to garner support from Telangana MPs and legislators.
The strategy is to rattle the Congress leadership using the political JAC and force a constitutional crisis both at the Centre and state by building pressure on Telangana Congress MPs and MLAs to resign from their seats.
1x1 polls

Towards this goal, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao will personally call on Congress MPs (14 Lok Sabha and two Rajya Sabha) and convince them that the time had come for them to make sacrifices for the Telangana movement by resigning from their posts. The TRS president will also convey to them that Telangana would be a reality even before the Congress high command accepts their resignation.
However, it is not clear whether the MPs/MLAs will listen to KCR's call as it is perceived that clout of TRS without the support of political JAC is on the wane. "There are no takers for the repeated assurances by KCR to Congress MLAs of a safe political future if they resign for the cause," said a political analyst.
But the political JAC is not deterred. It is continuing its pressure on Congress leaders from the region saying that they would face the wrath of voters in their respective constituencies if they fail to tender their resignations by June end. "The Telangana activists have been waiting with a lot of patience and we expect the Congress elected representatives to live up to the expectations of the people of the region. Once they resign, it will force the Centre to come down and announce the formation of Telangana," said political JAC chairman M Kodandaram Reddy on a number of occasions.

"By itself, resignations of 11 TRS MLAs are insignificant in the current context. Thus, it needs the 54 Congress and 36 TDP legislators in Telangana to realise its goal," an analyst said. "Though the virtual split in TDP and Congress on regional lines has brought about out a new political scenario, it has not been of much help to the TRS as Telangana legislators, barring a few, have sworn to abide by the party's official line," he added. This is what the TRS wants to change.
Taking objection to the tone and tenor of the political JAC, AICC general secretary Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy said: "We welcome all people and parties who support the cause of Telangana. But no one should dictate terms to us in a movement. We know how to get Telangana. In fact, we have a greater responsibility when it comes to realising statehood to Telangana."
